Introduction to Ableton's Session View

Before beginning our lesson activities let’s take a moment to watch a short QuickTime movie of Live’s unique and revolutionary Session View in action. This unassuming “database-like” display of sample and MIDI data offers a variety of innovative methods for organizing musical ideas, developing studio-based song productions and for spontaneous performance opportunities on stage. In fact as you develop your technical and musical understanding of the program’s capabilities, this non-linear approach to the creative music making process may very well transform your entire approach to studio production and live performance.

An Overview of Ableton Live's User Interface

To get started with our lesson, double-click on the Live icon to launch the program. Once the program loads, you will see the Session View of an Untitled-Live document. An Untitled Live document is empty and contains no audio or MIDI data.
